Both Jhet and pyper , my lab mixes, love to chew on rawhide bones and I have heard both negative and positive on this; what do some you think? Do you give your dogs rawhides or not? My labs, especially Pyper, the 11 month old needs something to chew on but are rawhide bones the best?

YES...I have two english mastiffs and have given them rawhide bones since they were pups. They have never caused any problems for them and mine always eat the whole thing. They absoloutely LOVE them. I have tryed a lot of chewy things and these are the only thing that will last with my dogs (cause they're so big I guess.) Like I said, my guys haven't had any health related problems. I would RECOMMEND these bones for dogs, especially for larger breeds. They also keep their teeth clean.
PS: I always buy this brand: Beef Eaters --Dental treats (at costco they are a good deal)
---MastiffLover48--

PPS: You can see a pic of Rufus chewing his rawhide on my profile, you can tell he loves it. There are other pics there too.

Thanks,
hope it helps

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..........they can expand and cause a lot of intestinal problems, especially in puppies

Our two German Shorthair dogs love rawhide chew sticks. We gave rawhide chew sticks to them when they were puppies and never had any problems with them chewing on anything in the house other than their toys. Today at 9 years old they look forward to these treats every night.

I no longer give my dogs rawhide bones. What broke me was my Doberman pup chewed on one until it was googey and it wedged down in her throat. Luckily she was under my kitchen table where I was sitting and I heard her making a gurgling noise. I had to reach far into the back of her throat to pull it out. If you do give these please supervise your dogs closely. I believe I would have possibly lost my dog had I not be within ear shot when she was strangling on it. I now feed pig ears.

We give both our dogs rawhides. They love them and believe me thye don't last very long either. Both our boys love to chew on anything they can get thier paws on so rawhides offer a safer way to give them something to chew on.

Rawhide gets gummy and gooey. Bailey can do one in pretty quick and then throws up. We get Choo Hooves. They are tough and last a very long time. A little cheese or peanut butter in the tip and tey are like new. We did not like the smoked ones because they turned her muzzle and paws orange, and they seemed to upset her stomach.

I have heard that they are good and bad as well. Sometimes they make my dogs gums bleed. Other than that I haven't had any other problems.

I play it safe(er) and only use the rolled rawhide. I don't think my dog enjoys them as much, but I think the quality is better and the risk of choking on a piece is much less.

My lab loves them. Pressed bones keeps her busy too.
