Q: Quieting a barking chihuahua?

With the warmer weather here, the windows are open and my chihuahua finds it necessary to bark at EVERY sound she hears. We live across from a park, so there's always someone for her to bark at. Any ideas on how to cut down on this, other than closing our windows all summer? (By the way, she's smart enough to figure out that if I give her a treat to stop barking, that she will then bark just to get a cookie when she stops!) Any help would be appreciated!

every time your dog barks, skip the cookie and give her a time out. remove her from the room, so shes all alone in a boring bathroom or something similar, for two minutes. do this every single time.

with chihuahua's i know this may not be the best advice, but you know they love attention. so maybe you should give her alot of attention to take her mind off of the people outside. if you occupy her time she will tune out others, and also you and your doggie will be spending time together. i think your dog wants more attention from you.
