Q: presa canario?
These dogs are big beautiful and inteligent but most people use them wrongly by fighting them or breeding them with pittbulls to get puppies that will be fighting dogs this is so wrong. I wanted to know if there is a rescue for this breed cause I was unable to find one online when I looked. So is there a rescue for Presa Canario's?

Big Dogs Huge Paws takes them, although they're not breed-specific. They take Cane Corsos too. They have branches across the country but I think their headquarters is in Colorado...but don't quote me on that. I don't know of a Presa-specific rescue in the U.S. There may be some small ones around or sometimes there are breeders who also rescue, but I don't have any on my list. There is a Yahoo! group called InternationalPresaCanarioRescue, but I don't know anything about it other than that it exists. Presas are great dogs but they require an experienced owner. They're not for the first-time dog owner or for anyone who wants to let their dog do whatever it wants to. They require a firm hand & an owner who won't let them dominate.

I'm not sure why this is an Urgent question unless you have a Presa that you need to get into rescue. I don't know of any Presa-specific rescues. Many rescues, especially those that specialize in bullies and large dogs, do rescue them though. There's not enough rescues for them, but there's not enough rescues for any dog or cat. As stated below, they're a powerful, strong-willed breed that isn't for everybody. They're for the experienced dog owner who is consistent with their training and maintains the alpha role in the relationship.
