I have been told by my dog trainer that tug of war is not a good game to play with any breed because it is interpreted by the dog as a play for dominance. Personally, my dog really enjoys it. I just make sure I don't loose :) I love Debby's idea of just teaching them a command to release when you're done, this way you stay in control and don't lose which is a strong possibility with such a strong dog . As I'm sure you know through owning one, Pitbulls are such a wonderful, happy go lucky, people pleasing dog that I think you're more likely to have difficulty getting one off your lap than with any issues of dominance.

Yes but be careful. They lovvvve to play tug of war, But they tend to get carried away. My girl almost took my shoulder out of the socket one day from shaking it so hard. lol

Of course it is!! Why not? If they enjoy it and so do you-go for it.I see it as a bonding experience.Just don't let them win every time-if possible. In fact my dogs would play tug with each other for hours. It was good healthy fun and no bad effects on anyone.Careful about listening to the experts-sometimes their degrees outshine pure common sense. If it feels right-just do it!t

tug of war is fine, but if she starts growling you'll want to cry out, drop the toy, and walk away ignoring her for two minutes. dogs will whip their head around playing tug or war and that's okay, it's fun for them. if she's consistently whopping her head and just getting too rough you can also cry, drop it, and walk away. but always come back after two minutes to try it again. repeating this many times is what get's through to them, just remain consistent w/what's too rough.

i think that it would be finr to play tug o war with them, but really be sure that they dont react to your arms as toys. if they bite your arms like toys take everything away and turn your back to them as to ignore them. then replay but be sure to set high standards so they dont take that game the wrong way. they are just like any other dog, people just say they are going to be bad dogs or bite or whatever because of their dumb reputation.

Definitely! I've read that tug-of-war shouldn't be played with pitties, but I think that's a load of crap! It all depends on the individual dog & his/her training!

Tug-o-war is a fun game to play with any dog.. but it has to be a game and not a competition. If the dog gets too focused on winning and not letting go.. game is over. Teach them to let go when you are done playing.. If they take the toy from you, they won and that isn't the way it should go..
Have fun with it.. just make sure all the boundaries are known and teach the dog to play proper. And it will be super fun for them too.

As a multiple pitbull owner, it is ok to play tug of war, the key is to know when it is appropriate. You pick when to play and when to stop playing, and how rough to get. You still have to set boundaries, when playing in any way.
