Has anyone evedr hired a pet sitter? We go out of town a few times a year for about a week at a time and it is hard to find people to check in on our cats and clean the litter. Has anyone ever used a pet sitter and how do you find one you trust?

Thanks everyone for the insite, and just to the one who said take them with us or dont go, well we travel 14 hours to see family 2 times a year, taking 4 cats with you is just not goint to work, plus not every one would want their guests to bring them. but thank you every one

Ask for referrals from your friend, family and neighbors. Ask your vet, your groomer and your local shelter who they recommend. Have the sitter come to your house in advance and talk with them and see houw they interact with your pets.

I look for a reliable neighbor, and I do mean reliable. These are your babies you are leaving in their care. I think it is better to have someone who is close enough to your house that if something major happens they will be nearby.

If you really cannot get someone who lives near, I would find a way to get someone who would come in every day at least once, though twice is better, who will spend time with the animal so it doesn't feel abandoned. The one time I did that I used a highly recommended person found by word of mouth, and I was happy with my choice.

I find that it usually helps to ask a friend that you can trust if you don't have family close enough to do it for you. My best friend does it for us when we go off.

Yes I have used ones before. Do a Google search, and look for ones in your area. Lots of them have websites with testimonials. Check your local vet or animal shelter for places that they recommend also.
