II have two amazing Terriers Dexter & Newton….they are our children and there is nothing my husband or I wouldn’t do for them……we did turn one of our spare bedrooms into the boys room……complete with TV, sofa dog beds and tons and tons of toys.

I agree all a dog wants is to be loved and spend every possible moment with their owners. Dexter & Newton follow me and my husband everywhere when we are home and they sleep with us every night I wouldn’t want it any other way…….but when we are at work we wanted them to have a special place they could go and we would feel okay leaving them for a few hours at a time knowing they had a great playroom…..

One of my friends has two yorkies instead of kids, thier boys' room is complete with the office desk and computer so daddy can work with the boys around, and a couch so that momma can curl up with both of them on her lap. in the corner they have a rubbermaid container which holds the peepads and then the rest of the room is filled with beds and tons of toys! I brought Harley to visit the other day and he looked like he was in heaven.

I'm working on adding a section of my office for Harley, however he isn't fully potty trained. So once he's trained I'm going to have my spare bed in there with steps for him to have the bed. We have a tv in there and that's where we do all our studying.

So my biggest advice is to make sure everything you have in there is washable. right now I have nothing in there for Harley that is soft because he peed on 4 things yesterday (I'm revisiting potty training 101 with him). He chases a bunch of toys around at my feet while I'm at my desk. loves it.

good luck. Post some pictures once you have it finished!

I'm not sure that would work for all dogs. Mine follows me wherever I go. If I made him a dog room, he wouldn't care. He'd still follow me around the house regardless of how awesome the room was. I don't think dogs need rooms, they just need your attention. I'd say save your money. Dogs are pretty happy with just a tennis ball and a human to throw it.

We don't have a dog room but rather a Lizard Room. Since we don't cage our iguanas, we turned the spare bedroom into there room. It makes it much easier to control lighting and tempature if they are all in one room. We added several platforms, hot spots (Heat lamps for basking) and climbing branches. We have even enclosed the balconey which opens off of thier room so that they can enjoy the outdoors safely on warm days.

i've never created a dog room b/c dogs like to stay close to their people. kind of a waste of money i would think. maybe instead of using the room for your dog, use the room for something you'd like for yourself and incorporate your dog into it.
we have a cat room, but it's for our fosters when they first move in. once they're allowed to wander freely, it doesn't really get much use except for the occasional cat nap.

A friend of mine has a dog room. She has two rows of crates on one wall. They are well bedded and ventilated. She has a small leather couch in there, and a tv on the wall. She put in a dutch door as well so she can leave the top open.

At my house, the living room is m y 'dog room' - lol.

Good luck!

I'm gonna do the same thing when I get older. I think you should just design a room that matches your dogs personality. That's what I'm gonna do. :) I'd start with picking a color that goes well with your dog. Then paint the room that color. It'll work perfectly.
