I have pet insurance for my senior dog through the ASPCA (I chose them over other providers/companies because then if I don't use the coverage a lot I at least know and approve of where the money's going.) You have a choice of Plan types, and each plan offers a different level of coverage over what they will reimburse for, i.e., a Basic plan might cover yearly heartworm medication but not stitches--be sure to choose your plan based on what level of protection it offers that you feel is needed. epending on which plan you choose the price will be different, I pay $35 a month for mine but I opted for a more expensive plan.
Contrary to popular belief, pet insurance is not like people insurance where doctors accepting different brands is an issue, at least not with ASPCA.
To submit a claim, you pay out of pocket as you would normally at the Vet, and then simply fill out the Pet Insurance Claim Form, copy the itemized bill and reciept that proves you paid, and send the form and the copies to the Address on the form. Then they will look at what plan you have to see what they cover, and reimburse you for it. They send a reimbursement payment to you to recompense for your paying the Vet.
Like human insurance there IS a yearly deductible (an amount you have to pay yourself before services are covered,) so the biggest choice you have to make about pet insurance is really whether you'll be using it enough to make it a worthwhile investment at all.

If you go online and just type in ' pet insurance' you will come up with alot of options. The only thing you have to worry about is if your Vet will except the kind of Pet insurance you have if you are planning on getting health insurance. It is just like our health insurance coverage.
I have thought numerous times about gettin health insurance for our cat 'Nikey'. Gettin burial insurance is always a great idea if you plan on having them put in the ground or cremated.
