Q: Pet Carrier For a Big Kitty
I need to purchase a pet carrier for my cat. The problem is that I would like to purchase a soft carrier, and this cat is large (18 lbs). I checked out the carriers at the local pet shop, but even though they were labeled at large or up to 20-22lb animals, they really looked to small for him. I know he's a cat and can curl up but for a long trip that seems a bit harsh.
Any suggestions on a cat carrier that will work for a truely large cat?

it really depends on how big your cat actually is, and how long you need to have it in there. if the carrier says that it is big enough for your cat then it probably is, they usually don't lie. but your cat should be able to stand up inside the carrier if it has to be in there for a long period of time, and enough room to sleep.

A medium or large pet carrier, lined with a blanket or towel, should work. Personally, I don't particularly like the "soft" carriers--they can collapse (and hurt your cat) and don't seem to hold up as well. If your cat likes to perch on top of the carrier when at home (like my cats do), it might be too heavy for a soft carrier (i.e., it will sag and/or break). I'd recommend you buy a standard "hardshell" pet carrier--it will protect your cat better.
