I have always fed my dogs pedigree small crunch bites. it seems to be a good choice. they have never had digestion problems. it is expensive, but seems to be on sale alot. if you have a tractor supply near you, they have 50 lbs for 21.00 when it is on sale.

Being cheap is the first clue that its probably made of crap because no quality food would include inexpensive fillers and garbage.
If youre on a tight budget, look into foods like Healthwise, Whole Earth Farms, Premium Edge, Chicken Soup for Dog lovers soul, diamond naturals, 4Health(tractor supply), and kirkland signature (at costco).
You wont find these at chain pet stores or wal-mart, most can be found at small feed stores. You'll have to check manufacturers site for store locations.

the site mary provided is incredibly helpful, probably the best directory out there on this topic. generally speaking, if you've seen a commercial for the dog food, you'll want to steer clear of it. as odd as it sounds, the top brands are some of the worst you can buy.

Pedigree, not so good. Pedigree does a lot of marketing and therefore makes their food look more appealing when in reality the ingredients do not reflect the price you pay. There are many foods that do not have common allergen fillers such as corn, wheat and soy. Pedigree has these ingredients. Look for a food that has a good single or multiple meat protein source, not meat by product. Fruits and veggies are a plus in the ingredients. Brown rice, or oatmeal is ok, I prefer to feed a grain free which usually uses sweet potato in place of any grains. Some of these types of foods cost the same, more, or maybe even less than Pedigree but remember you have more calories per cup because they are more nutrient dense, therefore you feed less, pick up less waste and purchase less often. Not to mention all the health benefits of a better diet, less, if any allergies, less risk of diseases such as Cancer, Diabities, and Urinary tract issues. A great site to help you choose the right brand is www.dogfoodanlyisis.com It has ratings and reviews on lots of dog foods. Good Luck
