Q: Peanut Butter and Dogs!

Peanut Butter and Dogs!

I know you should always watch your dog with any food, even if they do not have allergies. But...I just started leaving my dog a peanut butter filled bone every morning before I go to work to occupy him. He has been fine with them, but as a mommy I still worry. I just wanted to see what other Mommy's and Daddy's out there had to say about this situation. Do you think it is OK to leave your dog with a peanut butter filled bone alone? Any comments/tips would be very helpful!!

-I jus wanted to add that the bones I use are beef bones from the butcher. All of which have no small parts are I either buy the hollowed out ones or the solid ones. I would use a Kong, but Murphy eats them to pieces and I know that is a possible choking hazard!

Kong sells peanut butter flavor treats that you can place inside the kong and you dont have to worry about the splinters from the bones.

I think the chew bones you get at the pet stores are safer. There are several different kinds. I don't recommend animal bones. They can splinter easily. AS far as the peanut butter a little goes a long way.

Just make sure you do not have tainted peanut butter. I agree, do not overdo the peanut butter.

Personally I would be leery to leave my dog a bone for fear of choking. You never know better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't be as concerned about the peanut butter as I would be about the bones. Our Vet says dogs shouldn't have bones.

As long as you feel safe and your dog hasn't had a history of choking on anything, I think it will be okay. Just don't do it every day that way your dog has a break from all of the peanut butter...keep it in moderation.

Most dogs love peanut butter. Just use it in moderation.

It would depend on how old your dog is! Adog under one year I would not leve one, but older would be o.k.

We boughtour dogs Kongs because they chewed every thing else up. And they're still intact. Our girls love peanut butter and we've never seen any ill effects from it. We do use it in moderation.
