Check the ears, floppy ears are prone to infection, my Lab has a problem frequently, the Vet is needed, once treated I try to keep them under control with a dampened, with peroxide, cotton ball don't use a q-tip, also check the paws my Lab has big hair feet I use Nature's Miracle wipes on her feet and bathe her about once every couple months with earthbath with oatmeal & aloe and she looks & smell great.

I, like Stephanie, think the first place to check is the ears. Are they dirty? Do they smell like rising yeast? Dirty can be taken care of with ear wash from your local pet store. Yeast, on the other hand, is a vet situation, believe me I know!

Bathe weekly with a gentle puppy-safe shampoo, and in between try a spray like Kiehl's Spray & Play.

If her ears are really droopy - like a basset - it may be dirty ears. Track down the smell and find out where it's coming from. Dirty toes? Overall body smell?
Sometimes the smell of a shelter can take a while to wear off.
Goodluck!
