Q: Obedience Classes

whenever somebody asks something about how to train a dog for a certain thing, everyone answers "take them to obedience classes" but where i live taking your dog to any kind of classes is extremely expensive. its like $100 for six weeks and you only go once a week, thats for any class, puppy preschool, obedience, agility, anything. i just wanted people to realize that not everybody can afford to take their dogs to obedience classes. Finally here's my question, are the obedience classes in your area as expensive as the ones in mine?

Most i have looked into say that they are around $100 or more. It is funny because i called this one place (which has been highly recommended by a lot of people) & they quoted $50! They also said that they actually trained most of the other dog trainers here in the area! So i wonder why the others charge so much more.

For some people ANY cost can be expensive. No argument there. I can only suggest for someone in the situation to ask the training facility to work with you. For example, some kind of payment plan that both sides are comfortable with. If they don't want to work with you like that, I would think that the inconsideration should make you look somewhere else. They should look at that as someone trying to be responsible and respect that. Especially since this would most likely mean one less dog being returned or sent to a shelter, and an owner creating a long lasting bond with their furry friend. win win.

Have you checked out your local shelters to see if they run any sort of classes?
I know that at the shelter where I volunteer, they have Obedience classes that go for 7 weeks.
$85.00 for nonmembers, $70.00 for members or dogs adopted from WPHS.
I thought that it seemed to be a pretty fair price, and a lot of people have said the classes were great.
