February 19, 2009 | By Trippm | 18 answers | Expired: 2021 days ago

Our neighbor was hoading dogs and the dog officer gave her a kennel license for 10 dogs. We live in a neighborhood of 25 people. We have went to the selectmen and the only thing they have done is tell the neighbor she needs to put the dogs in after 10 minutes of barking. She keeps two dogs in a kennel with shelter being a 3 season porch. The dogs who is out in the freezing temperatures of below 25 degrees We don't know if their is shelter for the dogs in the porch. She also Yorkshire Terriers in the house which is doesn't take out in the winter. The dogs bark all the time. This has been going on for 4 years. We have 3 dogs but are house dogs and don't leave them in a kennel to bark. Our dogs are treated like gold. She went onto Zoo too and put all 10 dogs on the site 2 years ago that is how I found out she had 10 dogs. We need help.
Thank you.

There is a long-range bark eliminator marketed that works for several feet away. It emits a high-pitched sound that is supposed to stop nuisance barking. Do a search for it on the internet, as I can't remember the name. But I read about it just a few days ago. The ad said it was an effective aid to stop barking from not only your dog, but your neighbor's dog as well. Also, it would be nice if the neighborhood tried to help her find homes for the dogs, since I'm assuming when you say she put them on Zootoo, she was trying to find a home for them.(?) She's apparently a kind hearted person who wants to help the dogs. As the saying goes, 'it takes a village....'

Find out what the requirements are for having a kennel license and determine if she is meeing the criteria. Make sure she meets those requirements. Find oout who does animal control for your town and get them involved.

This will require a group effort on the entire neighborhood. I'm sure as many of you know the "police" are very unlikely to get involved in this.

I would continue to call the police every time this occurs. ALL of the neighbors should do this...the police will realize how this is affecting your entire neighborhood. Make a lot of noise...

I would check with the township about noise ordinances. Also, there are ordinances about the number of pets you can have.
