Georgia Blue is my first ever Pit Bull, she is so georgous and has such beautiful eyes. Our family would love to hear from anyone else who has had to good fortune to spend their lives with Pits. We are learning aboud BSL and are trying to inform all around us that Georgia is a well behaved and loving animal. The response from people here in West Virginia is a little daunting, most people will come up to her and say "Oh what a beautifull puppy, what is she"? when we respond "Pit Bull" they literally back up and panic............ Yep! Afraid of a puppy.

When people ask you what type of dog is she perhaps you should change your answer a bit. Depending on what she actually is, you could respond with: Ammerican Staffordshire Terrier (Amstaff), Staffordshire Terrier, English Bull Terrier, American Bulldog Terrier, or American Pit Bull Terrier. Putting it that way takes the edge off the name a bit and people often don't even realize that an Amstaff for example, is even in the same family of so called Pit Bulls. This is an opportunity for you though. You may be able to educate those people who seem afraid of your dog on just how wonderful these breeds actually are. They are so misinformed by the sensationalism of the press and it's sad. I think they're wonderful sweet blockheaded dogs and they make me laugh! I often refer to my cousins Amstaff as a gooberhead as the worst he does to me is drool all over my pants! Good luck! I hope you are at least able to change some people's minds about these wonderful dogs!

Aww, I'm sorry your neighbors have reacted that way! You'll just have to help your dog bust the rumors and fear about pitts. Having her not jump up, and lay down and wag her tail when people try and pet her would be a great start.

Unfortunately I get that all the time. Once I was at our local beach and my two pits were way out with my husband swimming and some women wouldn't go out in the water because there were Pitbulls in the water. I nicely said they were my dogs and very well trained, and therapy dogs. She still had a fit and called the police. The cops came and asked me to take them out of the water. I told him (nicley) that I talked to the Animal Control officer the week before to find out my rights on the beach, and he told me that on the beach they had to be on a leash, but in the water no. There are no laws on the books about dogs in the water since no one owns the water. He further said if you get a ticket you can fight it and win. I wanted to say nah nah to the women. I told the cop when they came out of the water in a few minutes we would leave. Since that's what we normally did, I was fine with that. Just goes to show you how unreasonable some people can be.
