Q: My dogs gulp their food without chewing, how can i stop this?
My 2 year old dog Charlie and my 1 year old dog Dojah who are both border collie/ blue heeler mixes, gulp their food so fast that they never chew it! I am worried because they need their dog food to scrape their teeth, and I every time i try to brush their teeth, i don't feel like im getting any benefit. I now put water in Charlie's food bowl because he doesn't drink enough water during the day, so now he just gulps and swallows water & food alike. Can someone help me??

Maybe they aren't getting enough food and they are starving?! Make sure you are feeding them the amount they should be getting and do you feed then once or twice a day?
Bigger dogs should be fed two times a day.
Also what kind of food are you feeding?
If something cheap and full of grains and no meat content - they are staying hungry.

Eating food too fast can be dangerous and can cause life threatening problems like bloat. There are special food bowls for dogs that eat too fast. The bowls have three "pillar" like objects or objects fastened to the bottom that make the dogs eat around them and that makes it harder for the dog to gulp down the food. You can find these bowls on: www.eatslowerpetdishes.com, www.dogpause.com, and www.dapperpetstore.com. Also if your dogs are eating together you might want to give them separate food dishes so that they won't feel like they need to fight for their food. Good Luck!
