Q: My dogs and cats wont stop sneezing!

March 27, 2008 | By Bonnie G. | 6 answers | Expired: 2420 days ago

My 3 dogs and 5 cats are all sneezing constantly! They don't seem to have a cough. Two of my dogs sometimes go into this sneezing fit where they literally sneeze for 2 minutes straight. Is this because of changes in the weather?

I'm not a vet, and obviously a vet would be the best person to talk to, but I would expect allergies to be the problem. I have had a cat with an upper respiratory infection and he blew green liquid out from his nose everytime he sneezed. WE had to wash everything because he'd sneeze everywhere. If it is a dry sneeze and no cough I would expect allergies. Talk to your vet though because I think, but am not sure, that there may be medicines for them like Zyrtec or Allegra for us.

Hello Bondizzil! Your cats and dogs seem to have a URI! (an upper respiratory infection) this is HIGHLY contagious!! If it goes untreated, it can lead to more health problems. Get them to a vet as soon as you can, and make sure they are NOT exposed to other animals because they can easily catch it! :)

Allergies is what it was for my animals. both my dog and my cats. I found a cat with upper res. infection and he had alot of stuff coming from his nose and eyes. So if the sneezing is "wet", it could be the infection, which can be fatal, according to my vet. I had 2 cats that were very allergic, it was a dry sneeze but, some running eyes, but it was water, not green that comes with the infection. In both cases, they should be seen by a vet. My dog takes benedryl.. but, the amount is up to her weight. I need to check with my vet before I give her anything.. and I don't remember about the cats, but I do know some meds. can hurt them.. always good to see the doc. I hope they are better soon.
