If your dog is losing hair around his ears, your dog might be developing Acquired Pattern Alopecia.

Canine pattern baldness (with gradual and usually symmetrical loss of hair on the ears — as well as the neck, chest, abdomen and thighs) is genetic (just like human pattern baldness) and it’s not just a Dachshund problem. To a lesser degree, Acquired Pattern Alopecia can also affects Boston Terriers, Chihuahuas, Italian Greyhounds and Whippets — all later in life (which, if not cruel, is selectively ironic).

The hair follicles in those patterned areas simply stop functioning. As with humans, there is no effective medical treatment for canine Acquired Pattern Alopecia.

In this case, bald is beautiful.
