Q: My Dog had blood in his urine whats WRONG?
October 14, 2009 | By GuineaPig | 9 answers | Expired: 1328 days ago
My dog has blood in his urine and he goes all the time like he cant hold it. He has diarreha as well. I am very worried about him and he is going to the vet tomorrow morning. Does anyone know what might be wrong or have similar experiences? My dog is a Coton de Tulear male and is five years old. I have a daughter and I dont want her to get too worried about him, how can I help her get through this?

Your vet should be able to tell you more upon an exam and maybe collect urine and blood for analysis. Hopefully the infection has not spread farther up the urinary tract from the bladder to the kidneys, as a kidney infection is generally more serious than cystitis (bladder infection/inflammation). Not sure what the diarrhea means unless your dog has two different infections going on. Don't alarm your daughter until you have all the information. You are getting your dog the care and treatment. I'm trying to determine if one of my cat has crystals or stones in his urine or has a urinary tract infection, but he isn't providing me a pee sample.

i agree with everyone else about it probably being a uti possible the diareha is from the stress from the uti if that is what it is. like they said make sure he gets plenty of water and maybe call the vet and see if you can take him in today

The blood in the urine can be a urinary tract infection (UTI) or stones; I haven't heard of this being associated with diarrhea so I am not sure if there is something else going on or if there is a separate problem. I have had experience with UTI's with 2 of my dogs and it was treated relatively easily. You are doing the right thing taking your dog to the vet. For your daughter, I think all you can do is stay calm yourself and provide her reassurance that the veterinarian will take care of your dog. I hope your dog is better soon.

Very possible that this is a urinary tract/bladder infection. My senior shepherd mix just had one & it scared me because the pee was so red with blood, it looked like Kool Aid! She's fine now, thank God for the vet giving antibiotics!

I am glad you got an appointment in the morning it could be any number of things wrong. The best thing you can do since he is going all the time and has diarreha is make sure he stays hydrated. Dehydration will make any situation much worse or potentially fatal if you don't moniter his water intake. Good luck and I hope everything gets taken care of and is ok in the end.
