My cat poops in the bathtub!

My 3 year old boy cat pees in the liter box, but insists on pooping in the bathtub! We wash with cleaner after every time but he continues to prefer that spot over the litter box. On the occasion that he does use the litter box 50% of the time he poops over it's edge onto the floor (and we use a covered box). We'd appreciate any tips on teaching him some manners.

I would definitely try a uncovered box and maybe a larger box. some cats are picky on where they go to the bathroom.

I am not sure keeping the cat out of the bathroom will work as it might force the cat to go elsewhere that might create a whole new set of issues. Cats are funny about their littler boxes. One thing I would suggest is make sure you keep the litter box VERY clean. Maybe your cats goes to the tub when his litterbox is dirty??
I would get an extra large covered box to try and reduce the over the side accidents although the intent is there so be happy.
You could try closing the bathroom door and see what happens.....but you may be sorry. AT least the tub is an easy place to clean as opposed to the living room carpet!

I would try placing a second litter box next to the one your cat is using to pee in. Also keep the box as cleen as possible, cats do not like using a dirty box.
