I think the "answer" lies in the profile description you provided for Marley: "He has submitted to being the least dominant cat in the house..." It appears Marley is trying to "mark" some of his favorite spots, perhaps in an attempt to "advance" in the hierarchy or at least claim his own spaces.
A cat like Marley may do much better as an "only cat". You may have to tolerate this occasionally "marking" and accept it as a consequence of having a multi-cat household. (Which means YOU played a role in "creating" the behavior.)
You could try to "accommodate" Marley by giving him his own room with your son. This would entail keeping the bedroom door closed and adding food/water bowls plus toys and a litter box (perhaps in a closet).

Another possible "solution" (with no guarantee of working) is to add some more litter boxes in the house. With five cats, you should already have at six to ten litter boxes. If you currently have far fewer than that, you aren't providing your cats with enough options.
