Q: My Cat is Swollen at the injection site after getting spayed!
Ok so she got spayed almost a week ago....and at her injection site is really swollen...like a big lump. My mom showed her to our neighborhood vet while i was at class, and she said its fine, just to keep an eye on her as long as its not like leaking fluid. But Im prett worried about it regardless...does anyone have any previous experience or knowledge about this? Ive had 3 other female cats spayed and they were never swollen like this....

When I had my cat spayed she got a big swollen lump, it was about the size of an egg. I called my vet and they said it sounds like the body's reaction to something traumatic like surgery. They told me to wait a few days, if it gets worse to bring her in. My cat's lump when down about a week and a half to two weeks after her surgery. =)

I have had a couple of instances where some of my cats had a reaction to a vaccination. Sometimes, it is considered less stressful for the cat to get their vaccinations when they go in for the neuter or spay surgery. Your question did not mention if if the injection site was from vaccinations or if it was from the general anesthesia. I would recommend watching to see if the swelling gets worse or looks abcessed (inflamed and swollen like a cyst). By all means, if it is getting worse, take her back to your vet. If you have to take your cat back to the vet to have her staples or stitches removed, be sure to have your vet check the swelling. My vet usually does post-op checks after two weeks from the date of the surgery.
