Q: My cat hides in high places. Is my cat normal?

I thought my cat was gone, and I looked everywhere. There she was, way up on top of the kitchen cabinets, watching and ignoring me. Is this normal?
Yes, your cat is normal. Hiding in high places is a sign of "cat confidence."
Chances are, your cat is lowest, smallest, most bottom-rung being in your house. It must get awfully lonely down there. Imagine if you could jump several times your height and clamor up to some great vantage point where no one will stumble over you. Or even find you when you need to get away from it all.
It’s warm and safe up near the ceiling, too. “The dog can’t get up here. Neither can the humans, apparently, because they never dust up here!” A supreme sense of confidence sets in.
At least you know where to look the next time Gidget goes missing.
