bentley does not have his ears cropped, but my boyfriend wants to take him to have it done. what are the risks and benefits?? is the risk of him getting it done now greater than him not having it done at all? he's 3 months.
if anyone else has a minpin who does/does not have ears cropped, i would appreciate the insight...thanks in advance
ps. i think he's cuter with them the way they are..floppy!!!!!!

Surgery is always a risk. As to benefits there are none. It's for looks only. Show dogs are allowed to be shown now with uncropped ears. I have Pitbulls without cropped ears. My son also and my grandson has a Great Dane. I see no reason to put them through that pain just for looks. I worked at a vet for years. Cropped ears hurt! So do docked tails and declaws. Some say tails and dewclaw don't hurt. Then why do the 3 day old puppies scream bloody murder when it's done. I'm sad to say, but a lot of guys are all about the looks of the dog. To them cropped ears look cool.

No benefit. Even if you were showing him in a dog show, the standard of min pin breed doesn't have to have cropped ears. It is essentially, a cosmetic elective surgury. But, does your dog really need it? No.

He is to old to have them done . You can only crop their ears when they are 12 weeks old or under . BTW its not worth the pain to the dog , or the months of taping the ears to have it done .
