Q: Multiple Personality Cats

One minute my cat is the nicest guy ever, and the next he's biting me or clawing - what gives? All I do is pet him and it seems to set him off from time to time. Is he playing?

I have had this experience with 2 of my cats and in my research have read that they just get overwhelmed by the attention and DO ask us to stop. One minute they are loving it, the next they bite or show aggression, and actually if we know the signs we can see it coming. They DO try to tell us, most of us just don't know or ignore the signs (tail starts slightly switching, eyes change, ears start moving, etc.). As soon as my cats start to do this stuff, I stop petting them and just walk away... I haven't gotten bit since! Hope this helps!!

Freeloader is one of these kinds of cat. Although she is better with some people, She doesn't seem to get "overwhelmed" with him. The rest of us in the family can be petting her and all of the sudden she has grabbed your hand and bites, she doesn't bite hard though, it seems just to let us know to stop. If you pull away her claws will scratch but if you hold still and let her release you and just let her be she is fine. I'm not sure what causes her to behave like this but don't feel alone there are others of us out here.
