Q: Moving Pets?

What is the best method of moving cats? We are going to be moving this summer and I was wondering what would be the best way to bring the cats on a 5-6 hour car ride.

We moved from CO to Tx with 2 cats. We used a large enough crate that boths cats fit in (assuming your's get along). We just put them in the back seat and made sure it didn't get too hot or cold for them. If you have a cat bed or something familiar to them - put that with them. We also stayed at cat friendly hotel the one night we stopped. Just brought the whole crate inside then had disposable litter boxes that we could throw aay. WE NEVER opened the crate if there was a chance they could escape or get out. They did howl a little but got used to it.

I would suggest getting a cat carrier and making it all snuggle with blankets. Just make sure they are their blankets with their scent on them so they will be more comfortable with the familiarity and they should be fine! Good luck on your move!

We moved our cat from Massachusetts to Texas and it was pretty stressful for her, she definitely doesn't like the car. Getting her used to the carrier helped some and we also had a product from the vet - a spray that is supposed to calm cats - that we used - not sure if it helped. The vet advised against using any medication to calm her. That said, she came through it just fine (even the 3 nights in hotels) and is a-okay.
