Marmaduke use to be a comic strip in the paper now it is going to be a movie in theaters. I think it will be a good movie and even attract people to the dog breed of great danes which means great dane rescue's get ready for tons of adoptions. It also will attract people to other breeds of dogs as well but what bugs me is the fact that the pittbull they show in the previews is a mean dog not a nice dog. It seems that they can't ever show the good side of this breed why is that? I hate this I love pittbulls and wish they could show them doing something good for a change instead of the negative side. But I think it will be a good movie. What do you think?

there's already extra danes on my cl. not sure if this is coincidence or movie madness just yet, but i'm sure families all over will be adopting this breed once they see the movie. which is really a shame b/c they're not always the best dog for small children since they can be jumpers. that paired w/their massive weight doesn't equal a great dog for a little kid and the shelters and rescues will bear the weight of those uneducated adoptions.

I agree....Pitts always get the fuzzy end of the lollypop...not fair because they can be a fantastic breed. Also Danes are a bit goofy....not quite like Marmaduke...but still clowns. A lot of people are intimidated by them because they are so large. I just hope the movie doesn't spawn a whole bunch of hasty adoptions of Danes....like what happened with Dalmations when "101" came out.

I agree. It's a shame that movies like this cause people to be stupid & buy a dog on impulse, instead of doing their research & adopting from a shelter. I want to dedicate my life to dispelling the myth about "dangerous breeds", & pitties are my favorite! It does irk me that most people forget about Petey from The Little Rascals....he never bit anyone, but Lassie sure did (not that I'm trying to say anything bad about collies)! Any being can be raised to be vicious...just look at how many parents are bringing up their own brats! Blame the deed, not the breed...or even the species!

It could be a very nice movie. I think folks' brains get turned on and engaged by stereotypes like the pit as meanie sometimes. Comedy works off of stereotypes done well. Disney was known for it. Some still stands like the tea baggers walking around with cartoons of Obama with a bone in his nose. We should be as enraged about that. Know where that comes from? Back when I was a kid they actually had cartoons with folks of color portrayed as cannibals and jungle natives with bones in their cartoon noses running around saying "eat 'em up...eat 'em up" and trying to force the pale guys in jungle fatigues like we see animal welfare workers wear in zoos sometimes into pots so they could eat them. This was on major TV channels for kids to see and it was accepted as ok. We even see it here with the way some less enlightened folks interact, pack and work off of silly old rumors they can't prove. Stands to reason if the superior intelligence of ZTers fall for that stuff the public would too. Maybe they are going to have the mean pit redeem itself in the movie.

I didn't know about this until your post. I hope they do it well. Most dog movies are stupid. You're right about the sudden interest in Great Danes because of the movie. It happens every time. Look at 'Hollywood Chihuahua' and '101 Dalmations'.

As for portraying Pits in a positive light, remember 'The Incredible Journey'. Michael J. Fox was the voice of that pit bull in the 1993 remake.
