Q: Maine Coon vs. Norwegian Forest Cat
How does the Maine Coon differ in appearance from the Norwegian Forest cat?
Jan 06, 2009
Forest Cats have a double layer coat (under coat and regular coat), where Maine Coons have a triple layer coat. (Under coat, regular coat and outer coat)
And yes, the Forest cats have distinct winter and summer coats.
I've got a mini Maine Coon mix. He has all the traits of the Maine Coon, but he's only 11 pounds.

Well Maine Coons have the points on their ears and also tend to be a little bit smaller than the Norwegian Forest cat.

The Norwegian forest cat will shed most of it's ruff and extra fur in the summer, the Maine Coon does not.
