Crate the kitten. The only things that should be in the crate is a toy, water, food, blanket and a litter box. Cats dont like to go potty where they sleep. She will then be forced to use the litter box.
You can start by only letting her out when you are home, then slowly give her more freedom.

This has worked the first time for every cat I have ever had - fill a bucket with vinegar, dip a mop in it & lightly take it over all of your floors, up to the litter box.

Its definitely something that can be taken care of with some patience. Please don't give up on her.

when she goes #2, but it in the litter box & put he kitty in the box to sniff it. you may have to do this a few times. putting the box in the hall where it goes was a good idea. That way the kitty will start to see that the box is where it needs to go to the bathroom.
