Know of any good pet friendly vacation spots with hiking?

My husband and i are always looking for vacation spots that will accept our messy but sweet bloodhounds - we love to hike with them - so far we have been lucky with spots in Georgia, TN, and Arkansas, but were hoping to find a new spot this year - any suggestions (we live in MS)

"Wild and Wonderful" West Virginia has a lot of state parks and forests with trails for hiking. Plus, many of those parks and forests have pet-friendly cabins and cottages. There are some guidelines though which you can read at www.wvstateparks.com/petpolicy.htm.

Another vote for the Outer Banks in NC. Rodanthe had lovely beaches that were not too busy, but it's an extra 20 mins drive everywhere. Nags Head was more in town, but the beaches got busy to be playing with dogs. Check the area out on the web; there are different regulations for the different towns.

You can pick the place and then check on the internet for pet friendly lodging. I know there are lots of bed & breakfasts in New Hampshire which accept pets

I've heard about a town in Colorado - Frisco - that is
dog friendly. I've not been there, but looks like
a beautiful area. I was in Germany last year for
a week, and people take their dogs EVERYWHERE - even
in restaurants!

I agree with Lourdes; I've heard great things about the Outer Banks in NC for dogs. If you are game for heading further to the Northeast, Vermont is very pet friendly and if you like to hike then that's a great place to go for that too. I took my two dogs up to Burlington to a an agility competition and they were able to sit by me at the outdoor restaurant tables while I ate my meals (summer of course). I found a great Marriott in Williston, VT that had full kitchens in the rooms that was also very pet friendly. I even took the dogs into the stores shopping with me! It was great.

In Clearwater Beach, Florida there is a wonderful historic hotel called the Bellview Biltmore. They accept pets. It is right on the gulf and has a huge swimming pool, golf courses, tikki bars, mystery dinners, extensive spa and the like. It also has a ghost tour on the abandoned floors. It is a beautiful place with wonderful history. Check it out!
