Q: Kitten cleanliness

August 31, 2011 | By Angel M. | 1 answer | Expired: 944 days ago

My kitten never cleans herself specially her butt and she's always dirty, which makes me keep washing her or use the wet towels several times a day. Although her sister is a clean kitten all the time. What can I do to encourage her to clean herself?

Sometimes when kittens are removed from their mother too early, they don't learn to clean themselves properly. Instead of bathing her, which isn't something she really needs, try using a damp wash cloth and going in short strokes down her body to mimic her mother's tongue. Start with her head and gradually work your way down to her butt and tail after she's eaten but before she naps. Her sister may even be interested in helping you, which would really encourage her to clean herself.
