Q: Kirkland Chicken & Rice Dog Food

Does anyone know the ingredients to this dog food? This is what the breeder was feeding my puppy, but I would like to give my dog some variety. I was told staying within the same protein family as the current food is the best. Not sure how to do that though.

Dogs are not like humans; they do not "need" variety in their diet so long as you are feeding them a nutritionally complete diet. Kirkland is a very very good food, if you are happy with it and your pets have good results while on it, why switch? The dogs aren't the ones who want variety, you do ;)

We us Kirkland Chicken & Rice but mix it with the dry and only use it as a treat.
Kirkland Chicken & Rice
Minimum 9 % Crude Protein
Minimum 6 % Crude Fat
Maximum 1 % Crude Fiber
Maximum 78 % moisture
When we purchase food such as this, chicken is the first ingredient and it is made from natural products.

(Please see my journal entry under Food and Treats entitled "The Horrifying Truth About Pet Food" and go to www.trilogyonline.com for a very informative video, and/or see my previous answer relating to fiber a few questions before yours). If you are feeding a high quality, all natural food, your animal should not have any stomach upset problems when changing protein. When animals get diarrhea from food it is because of the grain in the food, which carnivores such as dogs and cats have problems digesting because they don't have the necessary enzymes. They are not meant to eat grain, or any of the other things that are in commercial pet foods.

Well Kirkland Dog Food is a product from Costco's. I tried to go to their website to see if I could find the ingrediants for you but didn't have much luck. I am sure there has to be a 800 number you can call though.

But as BonsaiBrat stated as long as you switch foods gradually you should be OK. When my dogs were little the vet recommened keepin them on the same "meat" formula so it may be best if you stuck to chicken based dog foods.

Hope this helps.

I am not sure on the ingredents on this food. BUT when I have had to switch dog food I just add it a little at a time for about 3 to 4 days just to help avoiding a upset stomach. I would recomend just buying a good brand of puppy food. Iams and Science Diet is what I have used and have been good. I have helped with puppy's my whole life and have also worked with dogs in many ways. I am not a vet. I would try using " www.google.com " to see if you can find the nutritional information on the food you are using or look on the can for a 800#. Good luck! and I hope i was a lttle helpful.
