Q: Is there something I could give my small dog to help her travel in the car? She gets very anxious.
She gets very anxious & throws up most of the time.

first, make sure she is enclosed in a carrier so that she feels safe and doesn't fly all over the place. small dogs especially can feel very unstable in the car because they are not heavy enough to counteract the motion of the vehicle. then try to determine if the vomiting is a result of anxiety or motion sickness. i would recommend gradually working your way up to car rides by first placing her and a favorite blanket or toy in her carrier, placing her int he car, getting in the car, and then taking her back out and into the house. do this a few times a day for a week or two and then progress to taking a ride around the block and back, then down the street and back, etc. Take her to the park or a friend's house so that she associates the car ride with going someplace she likes. By then some of all of the anxiety should start to ease. If she still vomits, it may be motion sickness and not anxiety related. In that case, the vet can give you pepcid to give her before a car ride to settle her tummy. Keep in mind that some dogs just don't travel well!
