Q: Is there anything wrong with giving dogs raw hide bones?
My dog likes these. I don't give them but every 8-10 days. Is there a problem with giving them to dogs?

I wouldn't recommend it, they aren't easily digested. My vet doesn't recommend rawhides, if you are looking for something to clean thier teeth, I would suggest Nylabone Healthy Edibles, they are a natural and healthy chew bone that is easily digestable. My dogs teeth are whiter than ever - and my vet was more than pleased!

I used to give them to my dogs also. I never had a problem but my large dog would try to swallow a huge piece, then he would gag it up. It was scary. I stopped using them after my brother's lab got a blockage from eating them. I just dont want to take the chance with them anymore.

Please be very careful when giving your dog this as a treat. I worked in the veterinary field for many years and saw a good number of dogs with pieces stuck in their throats/digestive tracts....many of which required surgery. Some dogs have trouble with vomiting after eating this as well. Use sparingly would be my recommendation.....very. Pig ears have the same issues - try regular old biscuits....much safer!
