I would try just calling.

You'll have to call them with what information you have about the dog - the day and time they took him in, his markings, who admitted him if you know their name. They can't just give you a vague answer b/c you know he was there. Stay on the line until they give up the info you're looking for and then ask for a case number or name so you can look for him online. If they did put him down, find out why.

Either go to the shelter or call them. Be prepared to give them dates, names, etc like Jillian said.
