Q: Is Nutro changing?

September 5, 2008 | By Julie M. | 3 answers | Expired: 2163 days ago

I was told by a family-owned pet store that Nutro was bought-out by Purina and is changing the recipe in Nutro (making it w/ cheaper products, some from China??) Has anyone else heard this? I have 2 dogs that have done well on Nutro for 4 years, but I don't want their food to change without knowing it! I'd rather find something better before it happens. Thanks.

Could be. Nestle/mars bought out Natures Recipe and now the food is no better then the lower foods. When procter and gamble bought out IAMS the food quality went down the drain.

dogtrainer's right. Also, if you look around the net and look at some of the suits filed, Nutro may possibly be responsible for some recent dog deaths. The symptoms were similar to those of antifreeze poisoning.

Your pet store is right, mine are on holistic and read the label, if you buy lamb the first ingredient should be lamb, you do not want by-products or fillers, mine are on Verus fish, potato & omega 3, they all used to get 4 cups a day of reg. food on the holistic. even if the bag says to feed the same amt. you only need 1/2 the amt because there are no fillers mine are on 1 cup in am & 1 in pm, have been on it for 2 yrs the greyhounds are the same weight my Black Lab is now on a diet no treats (read those ingredients too) she's getting apple slices, cored no seeds, and they all get 1/2 cup of plain lowfat yogurt and some blueberries before they go to bed, they love it.
