Q: Is milk bad for cats?
June 8, 2009 | By Catluver19 | 9 answers | Expired: 1431 days ago
When my family was new cat owners,my mom suggested we give our new half-year cats low fat milk that no one was drinking. Later, one of our cats threw up. Now that our cats our a little older than two years old, is it ok to give them a little bit of milk as a treat?

Its not good to give your cats milk on a regular basis. An occasional sip probably won't hurt them, but if it causes them to throw up, don't even give them that much. Cats are lactose intolerant. They don't have the enzyme in their body to break down lactose. Whiskas makes a Catmilk & you can also buy Cat-Sip. Both are lactose-free & formulated specifically for cats. They're easily digestible.

I agree with what othrs have already posted. Cats lack the enzyme necessary to break down milk sugar. Each animal should really only drink its own species milk. Generally all that will happen is that the cat will develop diarrhea from the inability to digest cow's milk properly.

Milk is bad! cats & kittens are lactose intolerant!
The only milk that they can have is the formula kind.

Generally, it is better to give them the specially formulated cat-milk treats that you can buy in most pet stores. If you do give them regular milk, cut it with water, and don't give them much of it.

You can give cats milk as a treat. But don't let them have it on a regular basis. Even though they like it, it gives most cats diarrhea. Believe it or not most cats are lactose intolerant.
