My friend has a dog of the same approximate weight and the vet just gave her childrens benedril to calm him down while flying. I've also heard from others that it is ok to give them benedril to calm them down. I don't have a lot of money so I would rather get the benedril myself then get it from the vet if that is what he is going to give me.

It appears common that you can give your pets over the counter meds; the amount could be a concern. If you could call your local vet perhaps they would tell you over the phone without an office visit charge the correct dosage. Best wishes,

In the past it was unadvisable to give anything to diminsh an animal's abiltiy to pant while traveling in case of over heating. I would check with your vet before giving home remedies.
