Q: Is it mean to have fish in fish tanks?

How do people feel about this?

I have always said that birds should not be pets - that they belong in the wild. However, I have 2 large fish tanks and I feel that I might be somewhat of a hypocrite...

It's always been something that I wondered about. I mean, I think it would be mean if they had originally lived in a large pond or ocean and were then taken from their habitat and put into an enclosed glass case. But, if your large fish tank was all they ever knew aside from being in a smaller tank in a fish store and they were fed and taken care of properly then I think they're ok.

I don't think it is but differnt people may have differnt feeling on the matter it looks as though you got alot of good answers. As long as they have plenty of room and clean water and fresh food I think they are happy.

I've always wondered about that myself...The way I sorta looked at it though is that if it were not for you taking care of the fish in a tank and loving them and paying attention to them they would just be sitting in a pet store. At least this way they are being loved and cared for...I'm sort of a sucker and always find myself buying a sick beta so that it would die in a big tank instead of a tiny container in a pet store...try not to feel guilty
