Q: Is it alright to give only dry food to our puppies?
Mar 06, 2009
Dry food only is the best way to go, especially at a young age.
I have seen many dogs come through the shelter I worked at refuse the dry food because they've been spoiled on wet food. We would mix a few spoonfuls of wet food in with every dog's food so that it was easier to mix in meds, and because we HAD the wet food. The dogs who were used to wet food would only eat the wet food out of their bowls, and the dry food that had gotten wet.
Also, I saw a lot of small dogs there with horrible teeth from eating only wet foods. I myself think wet food is only good for older dogs when they can't chew properly anymore, or for mixing in every now and then as a treat (or to sneak the meds in)
As other users said, dry food is best for tooth health and keeps the teeth clean.
