Q: IS ANYONE OUT THERE??

October 3, 2008 | By Denise E. | 22 answers | Expired: 2146 days ago

Denise E.

I am participating in the activities offered on this web site because it's super! I enjoy it and I love helping contribute to helping Animal Rescues/Shelters. However, I find it absolutely amazing how many things that I have found that are important, yet there is no response. Or, they have a "point value" so the response isn't helpful and is a transparent attempt to help "one rescue/shelter beat another". Important issues aren't being addressed and I fear that we are creating an environment where we who care about the animals will never be united and actually consider one another competitors. If that is the case and no one responds to this message, I'm through. Remember, everything that we do is about what is most important, and that is protecting the precious gift we know as our animals/pets.

I signed up to help my shelter, but I love this website. I have been looking for a website like this for a long time, and because of this competition, I have found one. Its a great big club for people who love animals!

I found this site by using a video search on Stumble Upon. I don't even remember the video. I started looking around, added my pets, just because I wanted to see exactly how it would look on the net. I don't do my space, or face book, or anything else. I have some ebay groups that are all about horses. I did not have a clue what the shelter makeover was. I had no interest in even a thought to pursue it. I was perfectly happy to have a site, in zootoo, to play on, to find info about things that don't usually show up on tv, newspapers, or regular human sites. Then I read a story by Juliekay. I noticed her pick list, didn't have a clue what that was, and read some journals by NelsonH. It was frightening stuff, and opened my eyes to something I had never considered before. I asked Nelson and Julie to be my friends...I only had about 5, and I started to realize that there was a whole world out there of "wrong" that needs to be fixed. That is the reason that I chose to go to Nelson's Shelter. I believe in the cause, the goals, and how they work to achieve those goals. It is not even in my state. I live in GA, and they are in NJ. It doesn't matter. You do what you do to make things better. And that is what we are ALL trying to do.
I wish you wouldn't give up. I wish you would try to see how great this site and all of it's people are. We don't all agree, but we do all care.

Denise, you're new to ZooToo, so it seems a bit mysterious why you're already providing an ultimatum: reply or I'm through.

We each have things that claim our interest, time, energy, and other resources. We are each animal lovers (though that gamut ranges from one breed or type of animal to someone just seeking to make a positive difference in a general way). It is my hope that before you write off the responseless things you run across at ZooToo (and some of my Journal Entries, photos, article comments, service/product reviews, are without responses), you'll take the time to consider that we are each people. We each have things about which we are passionate. Not a one of us can do it all. I run across things regularly at ZooToo that have been posted for awhile that I just stumbled across.

My work as a property rights researcher helps me appreciate the true vastness of the Internet. There is so much information waiting there to be read/tapped, but no one can read it all. Many fine articles go unread because of the sheer volume of information.

So, too, it is with ZooToo. So, if you post something that does not receive an immediate response, don't just give up. This is a place to learn, to teach, and to learn the true meaning of words like passion, dedication, hope, sadness, patience, etc.

There are many heroes and heroines here. If we all had our way, there would be an immediate end to the abuse and neglect, the hordes of unplanned/unwanted litters, the dogs and cats that long for love and wait for it, their souls in their eyes as they look out at us viewing their photos and videos.

We must be patient and grant one another the kindness of patience. This is about the animals. Their love for us is conditional. It is ofttimes undeserved, but it never says, Respond to me or I'm outta here.

I hope you'll stick around and see the greatness that's yet to come, here at ZooToo, as well as acknowledging and appreciating all the miracles that have already happened in just over one brief year!

I think most people look at this as a fun competition. At the end of the day if your shelter doesn't win, at least you know that someone does win. Let's be honest, the reason ZooToo is doing this is to not only help animals but to encourage people to use the site. The more people who use the site, the more their advertising space is worth. The more they earn on advertising the more they can fund for contests such as these.

I think it is a win win for all . . and the compeition part shouldn't be taken personally.

I guess its how you look at it. If you see something that needs a response maybe you can respond? as far as being competitive maybe some people are just competitive either way the shelters win. I think this is a great site. and a positive place to enjoy the love of animals with others.

I was introduced to Zootoo to support my local shelter. I have always loved animals and have always lived in rural south Georgia. (Except for 4 yr. on Ft. Benning, GA) I am so thankful to the people that sent me the info on Zootoo. I have come to know others that I may never meet and some local new friends that I did not know before. I enjoy my time each day on Zootoo and would be here doing the same thing even if there was no competition. We may not think everything is fair, but we are all here because of our common bond of our love for our animals.

Well, I live in a tiny podunk town, and I'm the only one in my area that's on here... sad, yes. I joined before the shelter makeover deal, and chose someplace close. My "choice" has less than 300 points, and I'm responsible for most of it because I upload photos and video. My points are basically "going for nothing" here because duh... there's only a single handful of "supporting members" for it. I kinda wish I'd chosen some place that actually has a shot, but since I didn't know about it at the time, I chose the closest and most relevant listing.

So far, I like the site because of the information readily available. If I have a (relatively simple) pet question, it doesn't cost me the $25 (plus possible testing fees) just to have an office visit with my vet to have it answered, either. I do research on the internet in conjunction with the posted questions and then make the most informed decision I can.

In fact, yesterday, I called my Vet. Asked him about Omega's for my dogs' diet. He basically said, "Bring them on in and we'll have a look. You can try the Science Diet that we sell here". Well, in my opinion, Science Diet isn't the best diet for my dog, due to the main ingredient list.

Living in a small town, I have a choice of two vets. Neither seem to be extremely concerned with MY PETS, as I am, but they're concerned with GENERAL PETS. Does that make sense? I mean, as far as general knowledge and welfare, they're great... but as far as personalized and in-depth knowledge of my pet... it's lacking. I don't expect vets to have intimate knowledge of my pets off the top of their heads, but how hard is it to jot down notes of what we've talked about, so they can remember the topics next time?

My point, sorry to get off on a soapbox, is that although I've never met any of these people, they take their pets seriously and can offer suggestions based on their own experience.

I do NOT like how someone can add a message such as, "Wow, how can people do that?" to a News article and get 5 points towards their shelter. That seems unfair to me.

Like all of the people that joined ZooToo, I too have joined to support my local shelter. After the first shelter makeover was over I stuck around because of the dear friends that I have made. I also try to answer questions when I can. I have also asked a few and got some great help. Actually if it wasn't for the help I got by asking a question, I would have make an unnessary and costly trip to the small animal hospital with my puppy after her spay. We all have at least one thing in common here, our beloved pets and thats what this place is all about. We don't have to agree with each other 100% of the time, and you certainly have the right to leave if you want to.
