Can cats get inflamed claws and if they can do you take them to the vet for it?

The nail itself can't get inflamed as it's dead tissue, but the surrounding area can become inflamed. There are several causes including bacteria, infection, fungus, tumor, and trauma. If it's just one nail that is affected, more than likely it may be trauma-related. If more than one nail is affected, there could possibly be a medical condition causing the inflammation. There are OTC treatments out there for some of the things that could cause inflammation to the nailbeds and surrounding tissue, but you have to have a diagnosis so you can treat for the right thing. Many of these things look the same to the naked eye, especially that of the layperson, so a vet's diagnosis is best.
