Q: Inexpensive/discount Boarding?

March 24, 2009 | By Jessica P. | 7 answers | Expired: 2081 days ago

Jessica P.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive boarding facility in the Richmond, VA area? I will moving to Virginia in June and staying with my brother while I finalize job and housing arrangements. I am thinking I may have to board my dog for up to 2 weeks and don't have a lot of money to spend. Any ideas on lowering the costs? (There is no chance my dog can stay with me at my brother's..nor do I know anyone else in the area).
Key word here is "Inexpensive"....cheapest I found is about $25/night...but that adds up fast! I am willing to possibly to some type of exchange (tutoring/babysitting)...But $25 time 14 is crazy!

Hi
I can not answer your question, but I do want to mention that I went the cheap route last year and they came home flea infested and 2 were no longer house broke. So you know you get what u pay for.

I would call some local vet hospitals. You may find a vet tech willing to watch your dogs.

Jessica, don't be shy, ask about weekly rates. Are you military? Ask about any possible discount you can think of!

Sometimes groomers do boarding too. If you can find some numbers, you could check with them. If they say no, ask them if they know of any.

If there is a petsmart there, they do have pet motels at some of their stores, but I don't know the cost, ask your brother if he could ask around to some of his friens if they know a Vet, get a # and call, make sure they do board, allot do, but give notice they don't have allot of room, explain the situation & tell them you will be using them as your Vet & see if they have room, does your brother know anyone that would keep you dog for a couple weeks, with you supplying food, going over & giving walks & offer to pay what you can afford, don't bring to a shelter your dog could pick something up, also how about a breed rescue in Phila here the NGAP (greyhound adoption) has a wonderful kennel that takes other breeds, their dogs are all Vet checked & get great care, maybe their are some breed rescues that would take your dog a little cheaper than another source, look on a rescue site, pick a bred close to the size of your dog or if you know the mix, or maybe you have a certain breed, good luck, let us know how you make out.

tell the owners that you will feed and scoop the horses or you can do trade work

Try Olde Towne Pet Resort. It is fifty-five dollars a night with three walks included. You can pick the size of the room and other activities. It is in Springfield Virgina
