Q: I'm A Dog-Sitter..

I'm a dog sitter in Modesto, CA and I've posted flyers all around my neighborhood and even considered creating a website(too much work) I was wondering what else can i do to promote my buisness. My fees are fairly low so i dont think that is the problem ($7 for a 30-minute walk, $10 for feeding, grooming, and walking) Im 13.

-----

Its not a big thing that I'm 13 (or even a girl?) i don't think people are going to be really super concerned that I'm not insured or bonded or anything. I honestly think somebody would be okay with me walking their dog around the block. The neighborhood I live in may be different than yours , though, I dont see anythign wrong with me being 13 years of age wanting to walk dogs.

I would go to your vet or a local vet and ask them if you can post an ad there or if they would be willing to give your name to clients looking for help. But because you are a minor, their might have to be an 'of age' adult to vouch for you or be with you. Doesn't hurt to ask though!

I would be hesitant to give a key to my house and to allow a 13 year old I didn't know to take care of my dog.

Some places it is against the law for an under 19yo to walk a dog (especially large "bully" breeds).

I would NOT allow, under any circumstance, a 13yo, especially girl, to post anything on craigslist.org, too many wierdos troll those boards.

Do you have any local forums where you live that you could post on? We have 3 here (LOL for a town of 30K) and I know the 14yo I have come pick up poo in the yard has an ad there and that's where he gets 90% of his business.

Start by volunteering at your local shelter. Your Fellow volunteers and the staff are those who you will need to impress with your ability and maturity which can lead to some work for them and if you do a good job will lead to referrals and referrals are the life blood of any business........................Dennis

You might also try having your parents help you post an ad in your local newspaper. Definitely give yourself a range or you'll be everywhere!

Problem is a lot of people want some one who is insured and bonded nowadays. Try craigslist.org and post in your area. Make sure you put in your range. i.e. anything witin a mile of a certain town. I did it when I was younger and it,s a great experience. GOOD LUCK.
