I disagree with the others, if you choose and mild, human, shampoo and don't wash his face he should be fine. I use human shampoo on my dog all the time and she's fine. Infact one of the salons we took her to used human shampoo for all of her customers.

I agree with the others who say to wait until you can get a good oatmeal shampoo. People shampoo is to harsh for our furry friends :-)

you have many good answers to look over. the best thing to do is wait till you get dog shampoo. People shampoo and dish soap can dry a dogs skin no matter what kind it is.

You can use Dawm dish soap, diluted with water , no more than 3% soap. Its safe to use on dogs but if not diluted can irritate skin especially if theres already a skin problem...

If a bath cannot wait until you get to the store, I would use baby shampoo or Original Dawn dishsoap. I have been told they are both safe.

I think for one time, human shampoo would be ok, but its not something you want to use regularly because dogs have different skin PH then people, which will dry out their coats. I used to bathe my guinea pig with baby shampoo with no issues.

when my dogs get filthy and i don't have the chance to rush to the store i just use my own. one bath w/people shampoo isn't going to hurt them. i even follow it up w/using my own conditioner too.

sesun Blue with aloe is the only shampoo I use on my guinea pigs. it's safe and won't dry their skin.
