I would love to hear what other shelters are doing to raise funds. Some suggestions on great fund raising efforts that have really been successful would be great

I know of several shelters who have done walks with their dogs to raise money. People sponser the walk and you bring your dog for the day. They have animals and food vendors available for people. It is a lot of fun and a nice day for your pet

We have learned you should not plan on having over 15% of your income from events, as the ecomony/weather/etc can greatly influence the results. We get the majority of our income from longtime donors who continue to support. We send a newsletter out in Dec just before Christmas and include an article about a special animal that needed more care than most. We put an addressed envelope in the newsletter and get really great results.
We also do 3 dog washes every summer, and a summer /fall festival for dogs and people called Paws in the Park. T-shirt and food sales, craft things animal related, and games are fun. Games are best dressed, newspaper fetching, etc. We have demonstations from local dog drill teams and training facilities. Local trainers, vets, dog related people pay to have a booth for people to visit. We are careful to invite all dog alumni to come.
