Q: I want to make some fleece blankies for shelter cats, got any tips?
I want to buy some fleece to make some blankets for shelter cats but never having worked with fleece before I'm unsure if they need to be hemmed or not. I was planning on sewing 2 pieces together and placing and stitching a large X through both thickness but realize washing and drying can be a problem if too thick. Any positive hints would be helpful.
***Also, what is a good size for shelters?

I worked in the cat dept at the local shelter and we would have people make "snugglies" for the cats all the time. Some people would sew us some little blankets but most of the snugglies were knitted or croqueted. They were easy enough to clean we just thru them into the wash when we did towels. They were about 12 x 12 and people made us snugglies in all different colors and for every holiday

I make fleece beds for my dog. What you do is pin the wrong sides together, sew on three sides. (should look like a sack). Turn it right side out, then sew a zipper on the final edge.
I'm not sure what stuffing you are using. There's high density foam, pre-made decorator pillows, or polyfill stuffing. If it's the stuffing, find an old pillowcase and stuff that, then sew it closed.
Now you have a washable pet bed. Good luck!
