First of all, you need to make sure you have done your homework as far as researching the type/breed of dog you are thinking of getting. You need to make sure you have the time and resources (e.g. space, money, etc.) just like you should have with your first dog(s). How does your current dog interact with other dogs? Has your current dog always been the only dog in the house? You will want to make sure the new dog also has the personality to allow him/her to do well in a multi-dog home. If at all possible, I would have the dogs meet before you bring the new dog home. and see how they get along. I love having 2 dogs; they are great companions for each other. Good luck.

You would need to worry about alot of things, such as how big it will nedd to be, how well it does with other animals/people/children, the personality, the health ect.

I definitely agree with Kris on this one, make sure to do your homework. the AKC website is a great place to get information on pure breeds or get an idea on what kinda of qualities a mix might have. Also it might be a good idea to talk to a professional trainer about temperament testing and obedience classes to make sure you can properly socialize your new dog, and to insure a successful meeting between your current and new dog. You can never have too much information. Best of luck to you.
