Q: I need help catching a stray dog that has eluded me for 3 years.

She is lab mix. We have tried Acepromizine, traps, large pen with food inside and string on door to pull shut. She comes running and wagging her tail when she sees me coming every morning to feed her. But she will only come with in 5 feet of me. Very smart. We have animal control and a local rescue group involved. they all say they have never seen a smarter dog. If anyone has any great suggestions, please help. Thanks.

I would ttry standing there and ignoring her..she will get nosy and should sniff you..to slowly get to know you...just like when a dog runs dont you run...just stand there ...let me know how it goes ...hope it works..then of course offer treat..when its close enough...but do everything slow..good luck

If you have a garage, try moving her food dish closer to the door each day that you feed her. Eventually, place the dish half outside and half inside the garage and continue moving the dish more to the interior of the garage as each day passes. Let the dog feel comfortable inside the garage before you attempt closing her inside. (She may not be in a cage, but she will at least be contained.) You state you've been trying to catch her for 3 years, so moving the dish closer may take a while, but it should work in the long run. To expedite the process, try luring her with a food (e.g., ground meat) that she will find irresistible. Good luck!
