Q: I moved into a house with pet urine odor in the carpet. Is there a way to remove it permanently?

I now have 4 dogs and I'm afraid that the odor will give them the OK to pee there too. So far they haven't, but they sniff there alot.

First off, try spraying all the carpet with an enzyme-based urine odor remover (such as Petzyme or similar). I cannot recall off hand the brand name of the type I use, but it is a citrus-y scented spray and does work well. It may take a day or so (depending on how much you spray) to clear out the heavy citrus smell, but it does get rid of the urine. It's availabe at discount stores, pet supply stores and such.

My vet suggested Nature's Miracle, it worked when my dog was a puppy. He would try to potty in the same spot and this really helped. The trick is to soak the ares of the carpet that they are paying more attention to. I never had a potty smelling carpet. This is a link:

A great product I have used after a I adopted a chronic sprayer is Febreze for pet odors. It really lifts out the smell and my dog doesn't even notice anymore...which is saying a lot, since his nose normally gets him in trouble!
