Are you a fan of the Twilight book series? You could name the kitten after a character in the book, or something like Twilight, Moonlight, Luna, Starlight, Stella. I like names that refer to the night sky for black cats.

Smudge may be a good name for a black cat. Also Magic. Take care of your new baby. Cats are wonderful !!

www.babynames.com - when i'm having a tough time naming an animal, i either refer to this site or i try to find lists of cities or deserts or rivers and pick one that has a nice ring to it.

When we give names to the cats at the shelter, we try to give the black ones cute names like Fudge or Licorice-just because black cats are so hard to adopt out. But since this kitten is your baby you can name him anything you want, just remember that he will grow up so it needs to work for an adult cat as well as a kitten.Good Luck, Have Fun with your new addition, and I hope the two of you share a long happy life together.

I would spend a lot of time playing with him and watching him. That will give you a good idea of his personality. Think about names you like. Do you like cute names like Lucky, or human names like Teddy? Maybe a combo like Black Bart? Something will come to you and just sound right for him. Whatever you choose, enjoy your new kitty!

Watch the kitten for a few days and see how it acts. I have a black foster kitten that I have been calling Princess Piggy Poo because that is what she does. I have given my cats names based on 18th century/British/ etc slang. I have also given them names based on people that I knew but that didn't always workout (the cat hated the name or I no longer associated with the person). Just be careful and pick a name that won't be embarrassing to yell out loud. I knew someone who called her cat Kissy Meow. It got out and she went up and down the street calling out it's name. The problem was that people thought she was yelling Kiss me now.
